Summary: Germany - Gozo

Our first part led us from Halle to Gozo, with some stops to say goodbye this took us 27 days.We only cycled around 75 km instead of 100 km as planned - midsummer and about 18000 m difference in altitude slowed us down. To arrive in time on gozo to start our job we had to do some kilometers by train. In total we went 2000 km by bike, 1000 km by train, 400 km by ferry and 15 km hitchhiking on a pickup.

Planned:

Cycled:

Bicycle   -   Train   -   Ferry

While we didn#t keep up with our daily kilometers, we spent about twice the money we planned. Instead of 10€/day&person we used 19€. With all the heat we enjoyed the stops with cold drinks, icecream and air-conditioned malls too much.

We didn't spend a lot of money on accomodation as we only used camping grounds three times. We prefer putting up our tent on some lonely places anyway. We found the best places mostly in the mountain: On Timmelsjoch we had the mountains all to us as the road gets closed after 8pm, in central Italy with great view to Sulmona and a lonely bay on Sicily are our favourite sites so far. We spent the worst night just south of Salerno - a concert and prostitutes taking their clients next to our tent... Second place goes to a camping ground close to Rimini, sunshades everywhere and we had to take a site directly next to the sanitary building and a bottle bin. Compared to those, the last night on Malta was relatively nice: only 40°C and some mosquitos in ou tend...

so far our gear works very well. Most impressive: The foliation of our bikes still looks good, despite the high temperatures up to 48°C and one crash did not do any damage. Tanks to MooxiBike. Our bicycles work well with the 40kg of luggage, the Tubus carriers are great. There is just some minor damage: We will need new saddles soon, Christian lost his small mirrow and the kickstand of his bike is bent.
