Macedonia - National Parks, Woolves & Snow...

It is still raining when we arrive in Macedonia, luckily cycling uphill, so we stay reasonably warm. At the border we accidently show our second passports, which haven't been registered when we entered Macedonia. When we take out the other passports, the policeman seems a bit sceptical. In the end we are allowed to go on and down to Lake Ohrid. On the way, Christian finally changes from summer to winter clothes.

We would like to go diving agein, it's been a while. Lake Ohrid has some nice spots for scuba or freediving. But maximum temperatures of about 8°C and only 10°C water temperature stop us...

The weather is slowly getting better so we decide to do a little turn through Galcica National Park. There we find the best pass so far: The roads are not too steep, and on the 30km up and down we meet more cows than humans. On top we enjoy the great view on the two largest lakes of Macedonia: Lake Ohrid on one and Lake Prespa on the other side. Luckily the only wolf we get to see isn't dangerous any more and snow line is still slightliy above us.

Next we cycle round Lake Prespa and through Pelister National Park to Bitola. The National Park has more than 20 springs, we have to come back some day to take a closer look. In Bitola we eat great macedonian food at Pizza Metro, for about 2,50€ per dish - and get incredibly delicious pancakes as dessert for free.

We liked Macedonia even better than Albania. Partially because everyone her speaks english, so it's possible to have real conversations.
